Scandlines can look back at a very good high season in 2016. Especially the new hybrid ferry of the shipping company, the M/V Berlin, which was put into service in May on the route Rostock-Gedser, contributed to the growth in the number of transported vehicles.
In July and August, Scandlines’ new hybrid ferry succeeded in breaking its own record numerous times. Thus, M/V Berlin transported no less than 39,451 cars in June. The highest number of cars on one crossing was reached on Saturday 27 August 2016 at 13:00 from Gedser, when 351 cars rolled onto the new hybrid ferry.
The positive trend continued for the rest of the summer. During Wednesday 14 September 2016 550 lorries drove on board M/V Berlin, thus breaking the previous record of 427 lorries from 01 June 2016. Now with the high season coming to an end Scandlines can look back at a great season with good volumes in all areas. Cars as well as freight showed solid growth on Rostock-Gedser. And for both catering and retail the numbers for the summer months are good. For instance, 4,361 cups of coffee and 1.4 tons of french fries were sold on 15-17 July, the weekend with the highest turnover.
See for yourself in this video how a total of 630 vehicles roll on and off the M/V Berlin within only 15 minutes on Saturday 23 July 2016, one of the busiest days of the year:

Later this year, the sister ship, the M/V Copenhagen, will be put into service on the route Rostock-Gedser. The two new hybrid ferries will then be able to transport up to 2,600 passengers, 920 cars, 192 lorries or a combination hereof at the same time per double trip between Rostock and Gedser, consequently doubling Scandlines’ current capacity on the route.
