Scandlines and STX Finland Oy have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (Letter of Intent (LOI)) today for the construction of two new ferries for the route Rostock (Germany) Gedser (Denmark) to be delivered in spring 2015. The new project brings STX Finland and the associated subcontractors’ network work for 1,000 man-years which will be finalised over the summer months.
Each double ended ferry will have capacity for 1,300 passengers and 382 cars or 72 trucks. The ferries will operate with environmentally friendly LNG instead of traditional with heavy oil, significantly reducing air emissions and the emission of sulphur will be practically zero.
